REVIEW – The Sony SS-B1000 bookshelf speakers are a great fit for a small room. They are small, relatively light weight, and can have many different uses. The simple, yet stylish design allows you to place them in your living room, bedroom, or even office without being too flashy, but still projecting quality. Sony has been a dependable name in electronics for decades, consistently offering good, affordable products, and these speakers are no exception.

The construction materials make them a durable bookshelf speaker set. This might be the way to go if you need some speakers in your dorm room, where the odd drink-spill or bump won’t send you into a fit over their condition (I’m not suggesting you use them for coasters, but you can probably wipe them off quickly and not sweat it too much). Or perhaps in your garage/workroom, where there might be a little sawdust (or just regular dust?) floating around.

The frequency response range allows them to reproduce sound from a wide spectrum, especially in the high end. This allows good clarity in hearing the cymbals, bells, whistles, and high end voice sounds found in music or movies. You probably don’t want to use the Sony SS-B1000 bookshelf speakers to host a rave or a standing-room-only office party full of a lot of background noise, as the output is meant for a smaller scale. But, for unwinding to your favorite CD after work, or watching a movie from the cozy vantage point of your couch, these speakers would fit the bill.

As you can see in the Tech Specs, you will need to have sufficient power to push the Sony SS-B1000’s. Anything much less than the 120W rating, and you won’t get the full spectrum you are wanting to hear, and you may get some distortion. They won’t deliver chest-thumping bass, but you can’t really expect that from bookshelf speakers anyway. They will, however, fit just about anywhere in a room, and give you a nice, clear sound for your personal needs. Did I mention cost? The Sony SS-B1000 bookshelf speakers may not be considered high-end, but will give you good quality for a fraction of the cost.
